We just finished a WEEK long camping trip. We have since decided that 7 days of camping with 4 small children can be rather stressful towards the end. The 6 hour trip on the way home took 8 because everyone seemed to have to go to the bathroom every 30 minutes! Anyway, we had a good time reflecting on all we did. We left Boise on Sunday and headed up to the Sawtooths. Miranda and Dad went on a white water raft trip on Monday while Darin and Mom and the kids went on a hike on our favorite Sawtooth hike: Alpine Lake Trail at the Iron Creek trailhead. Darin bravely took the double BOB on a quite rocky trail AND carried Seth in the front carrier. Esther took a nap in the BOB on the way back...unbelievable how a child can sleep while being jolted over every boulder in the path! Seth also took his first bottle on that hike. Way to go, Grammie, for getting him to eat it! Then the next day Dad went fishing and the rest of us just relaxed around camp and then went to a very windy Redfish Lake. The boys decided they wanted to go in regardless of the 70 degree temps and promptly got blue lips and the shivers. It was still fun though.
Wednesday we left Stanley around 10 and stopped in Hailey for some pizza. Then we drove on to the thriving town of Carey on highway 20 and then another 9.7 miles to the east of Carey to a wonderful hotspring oasis between mileposts 214 and 215. You would NEVER know it was there. You drive through this desolate Craters of the Moon area and then when it seems that there is nothing but sagebrush and volcanic rock, you pull over and 50 yards to the north, there is a beautiful, clear, large, perfectly temperatured hot spring. Darin says it was the first highlight of the trip for him. Fun times! Then we finally arrived at our campsite in Yellowstone around 8:30 pm!! The mosquitos were voracious!
We spent Thurs, Fri, and Saturday with my parents and sister, Polly touring Yellowstone's geyser basins and paint pots and Minerva Terraces, and waterfalls. We saw elk, buffalo, antelope, and a bear!! What a treat to see a bear! We saw Old Faithful 3x! And we hooked up with my mom's friend whom she hadn't seen in over 20 years who is working at the Park for the summer. The only way we survived this adventure was through the teamwork of my parents, sister, and unending energy of Darin, who takes charge of the kids tirelessly.

oh. my. gosh! Those are the most adorable photos yet!! Esther is really getting into the animated phase like the boys : ) They are all so cute! Great family shots. Thanks for sharing!
Sounds like a fantastic vacation. Your mother is a trooper. Where was she when I needed T & J to take a bottle!!?? Cool to know about the Craters of the Moon hot springs. You guys are like Nature Special Agents. We're going to camp at Sawtooth City next month. I should call you first.
Miranda - this sounds like a great trip! I'm glad the kiddos did pretty well. You are so brave for attempting a trip like this with 4 young kiddos!
